Ally will ask daily, “What is the plan for today?” Now she definitely knows our weekly schedule better than any of us, and she certainly knows when the next “Despicable Me” movie comes out at theaters, but she really does not waste her energy thinking or worrying too much about the future. It is more likely that she is going to focus on what is next for today.

As I ponder that, I think … shouldn’t we be the same with God?Maybe the question should be, “God, where would you have me join in Your work TODAY?” Most likely He is not going to give you the 1, 3, 5-year plan.  However, He will probably give you just enough for you to take the nextstep.  I firmly believe He wants us relying on Him … day-by-day, hour-by-hour and moment-by-moment.  If He handed us the 1, 3, 5-year plan, we may be off to the races and neglect to spend time abiding in His presence and seeking His face daily.  He wants an intimate and personal relationship with each one of us and He is ready to meet with us at anytime and anywhere.  Isn’t it sad to think that He is there waiting and then we never show up?

Consider trying the following approach this week, “God, what is Your plan for today?”  Then make sure you take the time to listen.  As Bob Beaudine, author of 2 Chairssays, “…remember the 80/20 rule at 2 Chairs:  You get to talk for one minute; God gets to talk for four.” As my husband, Greg, will tell you – that is quite a challenge for this girl.  I feel sorry for him sometimes, as it can be hard for him to get a word in edgewise – but I am working on it. And I’m going to keep working on it … one day at a time.
